The Dandelion- by Lauren Rendler

I was told the magic of Dandelions.

Belittled to a weed.
An inanimate Annoyance.
A pervasive pest.
Who's seeds make our wishes come true
as we blow then into the unknown.

Its gift was once known by my ancestors.
But I was never shown.
....................................................................................
My perspective shifts in an instant,
as I listen to others share thier knowledge of
the dandelion. What was once a weed
becomes a medicine and a food.

I feel liberated and a sense of freedom as
I grow food from seed to my plate. What
was once a grocery store run becomes a
relationship to land and people
....................................................................................

As a descendent of white colonisers on
what is now known as the United States.
If can see the ways in which thie realithy
was passed on through me. A relaity that
normalized destroying the land,
imprisioning people, the gender binary,
extracting oil.

What I view as "normal". Question is all.
